Preparation: Install XCODE and Homebrew

First install XCODE from the app store. XCODE is the Mac OS X development environment. This takes long enough to make coffee or tea.

Then install homebrew:

ruby -e "$ (curl -fsSL"

Node.js can also be installed directly, but the installation via the command line uses the sudo command. It takes a little longer, but it is safer and leaves less room for errors.

Please be patient here too.

The installation via the terminal pauses in between and expects the admin password. Then it continues with the download and the installation of the command line tools. The installation ends with

Homebrew simplifies the installation of other packages such as GIT, PhoneGap, Ruby or wget.

Now it is time:

brew install node

This takes a while. The installation ends with

Check installation with

node -v // e.g. v14.1.0 npm -v // e.g. 6.14.4

Check for updates every now and then with

brew update brew upgrade node

Start server

npm install npm run start

This starts the Nodejs server on port 8080. The server can be reached in the browser with localhost: 8080
