Hobby and professional athletes run enthusiastically for children with heart disease

The Herzkinder Österreich association will start its 2019 running series with the Herzkinder Wien on May 9th in the Donaupark Managing Director of Herzkinder Austria. The motto of the heart runs is "Take care of your heart and run for mine!"

Linz / Vienna, May 7, 2019 - Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death, especially in older adults. A little exercise lowers the risk of a heart attack by up to 30 percent. With the Herzlauf Wien, the organizers draw attention to this danger on the one hand and on the other hand want to encourage as many people as possible to exercise. "Whether you're a beginner, advanced or professional runner - everyone is welcome at Herzlauf Wien!", Emphasizes Michaela Altendorfer. Runners can choose between three, six and nine kilometers, Nordic walkers cover three kilometers. Spontaneous participants can register for the Herzlauf on May 8th and 9th on site in the Donaupark by making a late entry. On Thursday, May 9th, the running competition will start at 5.30 p.m. at the entrance to Arbeiterstrandbadstrasse, with the first run starting at 6.20 p.m. From 6 p.m. INJOY, one of the largest European fitness studio chains, invites you to a warm-up. From 3 p.m., boys and girls can take advantage of the children's program with face painting and a bouncy castle. From 5.30 p.m. a DJ ensures a great atmosphere and after the award ceremony at 8.30 p.m. the big after-run party takes place.

Versatile tasks
The net proceeds of the Herzlauf Wien go to the Herzkinder Österreich association. "With this money we support children with heart disease and their families," explains Michaela Altendorfer. Herzkinder Austria is a competent contact and advice center for all non-medical concerns for children with heart disease, adolescents, adults with congenital heart defects (GUCH) and their families. If necessary, the association supports those affected in financing additional therapies. Other tasks include looking after the parents during pregnancy, providing support before, during and after an operation, promoting research projects and ward visits in the children's heart center and, if requested, on all cardiological wards. In addition, summer weeks and holiday camps are offered for girls and boys with heart disease. The association also supports the “Teddyhaus” beds in Linz and Vienna with donations. There is space here for families with a heart who are accompanying persons in the children's heart centers in Linz and Vienna and who do not get a free bed.
