Why was Hermione reaching for Harry's wand

Hermione Granger's wand

Description of Hermione Granger's wand

Hermione Granger received her wand from Mr. Ollivander just before going to Hogwarts. Its staff, made from the wood of a grapevine, has a core of dragon heart fiber and is 10 3/4 inches long.

Vine sticks are among the rarer ones. Their owners are often those who are looking for a higher goal, who do not want to be ordinary, and often also astonish those who know them best. Something that hardly applies to anyone as much as Hermione.

Wands with a dragon heart core are capable of conjuring the most powerful spells. They are relatively easy to use for the dark arts.

According to the Celtic calendar, the wood of a grapevine corresponds to those born between September 2nd and 29th. Suitable for Hermione's birthday on September 19th. In the Celtic tree calendar, the grapevine is a symbol of passionate emotions, whether positive or negative. Rowling chose the wood for Harry, Ron and Hermione's wands to create a secret bond between the trio.

The story of Hermione Granger's wand

On the ride on the Hogwarts Express, Hermione was already using her wand to fix Harry's glasses. As the best student of her level, Hermione was able to learn difficult spells very early on. In her fifth year of school she managed to conjure up a patronus in the shape of an otter.

After the hippogriff Buckbeak was sentenced to death thanks to Draco Malfoy, she threatened him with her wand, but then preferred to use her fist.

Two years later, while fighting in the Department of Mysteries of the Ministry of Magic, Hermione used her staff in a duel against various Death Eaters. After Hermione was incapacitated by the Death Eater Antonin Dolohov, Neville Longbottom borrowed her wand because his own had previously been broken in battle.

His broken nose made it difficult for Neville to cast spells. When the Death Eater Walden Macnair got hold of Harry, Neville stabbed Harry in the eye with Hermione's wand through the mask and was able to free Harry.

In the summer of 1997, Hermione transformed into Harry Potter with the help of a polyjuice potion and fought alongside Kingsley on the back of a thestral. The two were followed by five Death Eaters, two of whom they injured and possibly killed one. For a short time both were also pursued by Lord Voldemort before he pursued the real Harry.

In December of the same year, Hermione defended Harry against the attack by Voldemort's snake Nagini. While she was successful, Harry's wand unfortunately broke in the process. Since Harry's wand could no longer be repaired, the two shared Hermione's wand for a while.

When Harry, Ron and Hermione were captured and taken to the Malfoys' manor, their wands were also stripped from them. Hermione then used Bellatrix Lestrange's wand, which Harry grabbed while escaping from the Malfoy estate.

Hermione was reluctant to use this wand. On the one hand, she hadn't won him in a duel, which made it more difficult to control, and on the other hand, it was the magic wand that previously killed Sirius Black and tortured the Longbottoms, among other things. Due to the lack of alternatives, however, she had no choice for the time being.

However, this later posed another problem. As Harry. Ron and Hermione broke in at Gringotts, Hermione turned into Bellatrix Lestrange with the help of Polyjuice. For identification, the goblins wanted to see her wand before she was allowed to enter the Lestrange family dungeon.

Since the real Bellatrix Lestrange had previously warned the goblins that her wand was stolen, Harry had to use the Imperius Curse to see that Hermione was let in.

At the Battle of Hogwarts, Hermione eventually fought alongside Ginny and Luna against Bellatrix Lestrange. Even though she had to use Bellatrix ‘wand on his Master, Hermione managed to keep up with her.

Unfortunately, it is not known what became of Hermione's own staff after it was taken away from her.

The staff in the Elbenwald shop

The replica offered by Elbenwald has a grapevine pattern, like Hermione's wand from the third film. In the first two films her wand was still black with a light handle.

Like Luna's, Hermione's wand is one of the few wands that does not have a clearly identifiable handle. Of course, Hermione's wand is also originally licensed and comes with a certificate of authenticity.

The stick offered is 37.5 cm long and thus about 10 cm longer than described in the books, which is due to the fact that it is based on the one from the films. It is packed in a gift box lined with green velvet.
