Summer in Essen - discover the possibilities of your city

There is always something going on in Essen - even more so this summer! Under the motto "Summer in Essen", the shopping city is not only attracting visitors this year with its diverse shopping opportunities and attractive restaurants. Spread across the city, visitors will experience numerous family and cultural offers in public space in the coming months. The aim is to revive the inner city and the medium-sized centers after the corona-related shutdown and to increase the quality of stay.

In order to achieve this goal, the city of Essen, the EMG - Essen Marketing Gesellschaft, the Essen showman companies and the cultural office work closely together. During these days, a joint start will be made to enable art and culture in public spaces, to offer guided tours again and to implement family offers through the Essen showman companies. "The 'Summer in Essen' is not an event," explains EMG managing director Richard Röhrhoff. "It is more about discovering the possibilities of your own city, especially this year. In view of the many people who will be on vacation this year, this is more important than ever."

Closed theaters, concert halls and canceled events - the cultural scene will find it difficult to find its way back to normal working life in the coming weeks and months. The public space therefore currently offers the greatest opportunity to offer art and cultural workers a "stage" - especially in a city like Essen, which, with its generous areas and shopping streets, enables minimum distances to be adhered to. "I am very pleased that the cultural office, together with the EMG, can provide space to enable art and culture in free space," says Muchtar Al Ghusain, head of the cultural department. "We give our artists and cultural workers the opportunity to present themselves, to show their art and at the same time to ensure a nice experience for all visitors. If we can't let the street art festival planned for September take place, we will bring street art now at least spread over the entire summer in the pedestrian zones of Essen. "

The Essen showman companies will play a major role in revitalizing the inner city and the medium-sized centers. Together with the art and culture scene, they ensure variety and a better quality of stay. The representatives of the Essen showmen Albert Ritter and Oliver Müller are correspondingly happy: "We are very happy to contribute to revitalizing the city with our entertainment venues and sales stands. Closing ranks with culture is a special concern of ours and creates completely new perspectives. Making people happy again and at the same time increasing the quality of their stay in Essen makes us very happy. "

The development of the Essen fairgrounds has already begun. The first stalls and children's carousels should open in the next few days. Street art, guided tours and a digital city rally for children will follow step by step. There will be deliberately no fixed dates, programs and appearances in order to avoid large crowds. Individual campaigns will gradually complement the range on offer in Essen. Up-to-date information is always published at www.visitessen.de/sommerinessen.
