Business English - what is it actually?

When you apply for jobs in international companies, you will quite often come across the requirement "business fluent English" in job advertisements. Language schools speak of business English and English and mean the same thing: the ability to use English successfully in business cooperation. The knowledge that is combined under the collective term Business English is usually the following:

  1. Vocabulary: Phrases and phrases that are used in business cooperation. This includes terms from areas such as trade and finance as well as legal terms in English-language contracts.

Which known tests are there?

If you have taken the effort and learned business English, you will of course also want to use your new knowledge to search for a job. To do this, you can have your skills certified by an official body. There are various tests that are internationally recognized and enrich every résumé:

  • LCCI test The language test of the London Chamber of Commerce is based heavily on British English. So be careful: there are sometimes big differences between British and American English. In the test procedure you can, for example, have proof of English for Business (EFB) or Spoken English for Industry and Commerce (SEFIC). The tests are offered in many cities across Germany, but can cost up to 250 euros.
  • Cambridge Certificate The Cambridge English Language Assessment is one of the most popular test procedures. Here, too, you can take special exams for Business English. There are test centers all over Germany and many adult education centers offer corresponding preparatory courses.

Most people are familiar with the TOEFL and IELTS certificates. But they are more important for people who want to enroll at English-speaking universities.
